RUEA President G. Makaryan met with the ILO Director-General Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo in the framework of the International Conference on "Advancing Social Justice: Reshaping the Future of Work in the Era of Technological Transformations and Crisis"
On 18 December 2023, the President of the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia G. Makaryan participated in the International Conference on "Advancing Social Justice: Reshaping the Future of Work in the Era of Technological Transformations and Crisis" in Yerevan. The President of Armenia, the RA Prime Minister, several ministers and deputies of the National Assembly of Armenia, as well as high-ranking officials from foreign countries participated in the Conference.
During the conference, G. Makaryan met with the General Director of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, who was particularly interested in the current situation of tripartite social partnership in Armenia, as well as the problems in the field and the RUEA activities.
During the meeting with the ILO Director-General and his team and in the working groups of the Conference, the RUEA President emphasized the role of employers in the socio-economic development in Armenia, the strengthening of the tripartite social partnership institution by relevant laws. He also suggested revising certain ILO conventions to adapt their content and requirements to overcome current world challenges.
G. Makaryan expressed gratitude to the ILO Director-General Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo for many years of effective cooperation with the ILO, especially in the following directions:
- Ratification of ILO conventions and fulfillment of requirements of conventions ratified by Armenia
- Decent work in Armenia
- Occupational safety and health
- Advocacy of equal rights for women and men
- Education-labour market cooperation
- Digitization, etc.
During the Conference and in separate discussions, the ILO practices and the experience of other countries were highlighted in the scope of social justice, employment promotion and the importance of work in the context of the challenges in Armenia.

RUEA has been working with the World Food Programme in a multiphase assessment of Armenia’s food security system. On 5 February, 2021 we had a mini-conference to discuss the pillars around which food security system of Armenia can help develop the other sectors of the economy (we estimated at least 15 such sector linkages with food security).

30-04-2021On 30 April 2021, three RUEA representatives attended a meeting on the progress of the “Resource Saving and Clean Production” (RSCP) component of the “EU for the Environment” program. The main purpose of the meeting was to demonstrate the possible application of RSCP practices based on food / agriculture, construction materials and chemical industry, as well as to receive suggestions on partnership opportunities with other interested organizations.
